The finale of the 2015/16 FIA Formula E Championship is expected to take place in Battersea Park following an agreement between Formula E Holdings and Wandsworth Council.
The location of the London round of this year’s Championship has been the subject of debate due unrest from Battersea locals, with some protesting the park-based race and its impact on the local community.
However, Motorsport.com reports that a deal has been struck to host the race on the weekend of 2nd and 3rd July 2016 – a week later than originally planned, in order to avoid a clash with the British Grand Prix.
Paul McCue, Assistant Director of Leisure and Culture at Wandsworth Council, told Motorsport.com: “In light of the considerable response to the consultation exercise , the Council needs more time to properly analyse the results in order to inform a fair and balanced decision on the matter.”
“That being so, the review report was not considered at the September 22 meeting of the Community Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee (our original plan) and we will need to set an alternative date.”
The change of date is pending ratification by the World MotorSport Council, which is due to be confirmed later today.
Once the location of the circuit is confirmed, it is expected that it will join the list of tracks that will be subject to layout revisions for this year’s Championship, in order to improve the show and safety of existing layouts.
The 2015/16 Formula E Championship commences in Beijing on 24th October.
