Japanese driver Sakon Yamamoto will drive the Spark-Renault Formula E car in the Roppongi Hills district of Tokyo this coming weekend.
The area is renowned as the city’s party district and has been liken to Soho in London and also plays host to TV Asahi – the Japanese media conglomerate which has secured a long-term deal to broadcast Formula E across the country.
According to reports from Motorsport.com, the streets of Roppongi Hills are believed to a favourite location for a future Japanese ePrix, which could be on the calendar as soon as season three.
Mark Preston, team principal of Team Aguri, commented to Apex Racing PR: “The details of the event are still being finalised, but we have a government minister, Aguri Suzuki and I in attendance, with Sakon in the car.”
There are discussions that a further demo is planned in Japan, but Preston stated: “I don’t think it will run anywhere else at the moment.”
