Once again the FIA’s all-electric racing category has demonstrated its commitment to providing fans with greater access and insight to the sport through social media, after announcing that the next race will be available on live-streaming video app Periscope.
Periscope has been gathering considerable pace and a massive global audience since its launch in March. It took just 10 days for the app to hit 1 million users and that following has continued to grow even after the initial buzz.
Both Trulli Formula E and ABT Formula E have already stated their intention to use the social media app to give their followers a better insight into behind the scenes activity, which is a very positive and exciting step forwards.
I hope that FIA Formula E will get on board themselves and use the app to supplement TV broadcasts to provide viewers with an additional channel that offers a different perspective of the race and promote even more social media conversations.
Stay tuned for an upcoming blog on the potential application of Periscope in motorsport.
