Sir Frank Williams, founder of the team I have supported since the age of two, celebrated his 73rd birthday this week. In a slight departure from my usual blogs, I thought I would take this opportunity to praise Williams for its fan initiatives over recent seasons.
Any viewers of Sky F1 in the UK will undoubtedly have been the impressive levels of access that have been afforded by Williams to fans – sharing live pitwall updates, offering behind-the-scenes technology updates and generally offering greater access than almost any team on the grid. Even at a time when they are once again looking to challenge at the front.
The team has also produced some excellent graphics (as shown below) for fans to share on social media, and while they could strengthen this area of their fan engagement, William’s true success is perfectly encapsulated by the always open, honest and unflappable Claire Williams.
I was delighted to that that William’s dedication to bringing fans closer to the sport went a step further today, with their 2014 car displayed outside sponsor BT’s offices in central London. It is rare that fans can get this close to sure beautiful machines.
